Make scanned PDFs searchable and extract text.
Loading Scan PDF to OCR…
Good to know
Choose a scanned PDF, select English, Gujarati or Hindi, and recognize the printed text. Review each page, then download a searchable PDF or UTF-8 text file. Files and recognition stay on your device; the OCR engine and language files load from this site.
Enter a page range to process up to 20 pages and 25 MB at a time. Standard quality is faster; detailed quality helps with small text. Large pages are limited to 12 megapixels. Choose automatic document layout or a single text block, and optionally improve contrast for faint scans. OCR can take time; progress and cancellation are available.
Searchable pages retain their existing text by default. Enable re-scanning to replace an incorrect existing text layer; this rebuilds selected pages from rendered images and can increase the file size. Otherwise, original scan content remains native and an invisible OCR layer makes it selectable and searchable.
OCR can misread blurry scans, handwriting, numbers and complex layouts. Confidence is a review guide rather than guaranteed accuracy. Blank/unrecognized pages are reported. OCR does not reconstruct editable Word formatting or Excel tables. Check your text before using or sharing it.
Files stay in your browser. Keep your originals and check your download.
How to use Scan PDF to OCR
- Open a scanned PDF and choose English, Gujarati + English, Hindi + English or the combined languages that match the page.
- Set the page range, with up to 20 selected pages. Start with standard quality; detailed quality and contrast enhancement can help small or faint printed text.
- Select Recognize text and review every page. Download a searchable PDF or TXT, then verify important names and numbers against the scan.
A practical example
To extract selected pages from a six-page printed letter, enter 1, 3-5 in Pages and select the matching language. Four pages will be processed. Review the recognized text before copying it or using the searchable download.
Common questions
Does OCR upload my scan to a service?
No. Recognition runs on your device. The browser downloads the OCR engine and selected language models from this site; the document itself is not sent for recognition.
Why are incorrect words in an existing text layer unchanged?
Searchable pages keep their existing text by default. Enable Re-scan pages that already contain text to rebuild selected pages as images with a new OCR layer. This can increase file size and still requires review.
